Alice Lines, editor of homestyle magazine, shares her personal styling tips for the sleep space.

What is your favourite thing about your bedroom?
I love that we have the luxury of space in our bedroom. Despite living in an apartment, it’s generously sized, super high-stud, and has an original old fireplace, with a mantle that is great for displaying my ever evolving collection of art and objects.

What is never missing from your bedside table?
A Wundaire ring dish my friend Claire at Meadowlark gave me, and a Tubereuse candle by Curio Noir. There’s usually at least one novel that is well overdue being finished, currently it’s Lab Girl by Hope Jahren.

Do you make your bed every morning?
Always. It’s like getting a head start on the ‘to do’ list for the day, and you can’t beat sliding into a well-made bed at night. It helps that my fiancé is quite OCD about this too.

Can you share a styling tip for the bedroom?
Having a bench at the end of the bed gives you an additional tool in your bedroom styling artillery. Perfect for a stack of books, or to hide new heel purchases, and it helps break up the visual dominance of the bed in the room.

What did you remove before you took these shots?
Actually, it was a case of adding rather than subtracting. I bought a rug home from a recent holiday in Bolivia which I wanted to use in the bedroom, but it didn’t really match anything else in the room. So I had a photo from the same trip framed to hang above the bed, and continued the colour theme with a new velvet, linen pillowcase and cushion combo. It feels like a whole new room for winter!
