#askthestylist : colour combos in small spaces
Small spaces present unique challenges when styling and decorating - especially when you want to create a room with warmth and character. Città Stylist Sam explains how to bring moody, rich colours into a small bedroom without cramping your style.

Tammy Mcquire asked:
Hi, I have a small bedroom 300x290 to reno. Would moody colours (olives greys navys) make this space look too small?
A
Theoretically deep moody colours make a space feel more intimate, whereas softer cool colours recede to make the room look larger. If you want to inject some colour into a space, particularly smaller rooms, then it's all about balance!
Try a beautiful warm neutral on the walls, such as Resene Alpaca (top left) and inject your rich colours in with the bed linen, cushions and throws. Or, go for a rich moody green such as Resene Olive Green (top right) and balance this with more neutral accessories.
Bedrooms are the perfect spaces to experiment with moodier colours, especially in smaller spaces, as they are the rooms we go to feel cosy and relaxed in.
