How to : position your prints
Hero prints and coordinating accessories help to pull together your living space look. Città Stylist Sam van Kan shares four tips on how to position your prints like a pro.
1. Off-center
With smaller pieces of artwork, position it to one side of your sofa, and balance it out by positioning a floor lamp, side table or tall plant on the opposite side. This will help to frame the sofa and shape the space within the room. Creating balance will ensure both sides of your sofa have a focal point.
2. Eye level
Ideally, most art should be hung at eye level, but it really does depend on the size of the painting. More specifically, try to hang your art so the center or hero point is at eye level. However keep in mind, you don’t want it looking closer to the ceiling than your sofa, and you do want to be able to sit comfortably without whacking your head on it!
3. Frame wall
Use a variety of frame sizes and experiment by grouping wall-hangings, or even decorative hats among your artwork. Vary frame width, depth and orientation to create a mix-and-match feel. Our Prado and Edge frames are great for this as they are clean and modern, letting the artwork do the talking.
4. Center of attention
With larger pieces of artwork that are over half the width of your sofa, we recommend centering the piece to the middle of your sofa. This helps to create a balance between the most dominant features in your room, and also makes the art more of a hero piece.
