How to : style your living space for spring
Sometimes the loveliest schemes are also the simplest. Città Stylist Sam van Kan and homestyle Editor Alice Lines share their laid-back lead to style your way to your most liveable set-up yet.
1. Stay classy.
When teamed with sunset shades like toffee and turmeric, cane chairs, a jute rug and feathery toetoe provide hints of a ’70s look. Make it work in a modern setting by restricting your palette to just a few warm hues and tying it all together with some grounding neutrals.
2. Embrace fuss-free femininity. For Città’s spring/summer collection, Arcadia, head of textile and product design Imogen Tunnicliffe was drawn to soft, sculptural shapes, fluid lines, deconstructed geometric detailing, and decorative elements that feel feminine and elegant. “Nothing in the collection takes itself too seriously,” she says. “The forms are modern but friendly, inviting comfort and escape in a sophisticated way.”
3. Have a ball with baskets. It’s a super-easy way to create a large-scale artwork for your wall. Buy a complete set or search thrift stores for several in a range of sizes, weaves and colours. Map out your arrangement on the floor, add a twisty tie to the back of each basket, then hang on removable hooks, or use nails.
