7 out-of-the-box Valentine’s date ideas
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and love is in the air. Create a day to remember by opting for a date less ordinary. After all, what’s romance without a little surprise and adventure! Here are seven out-of-the-box date ideas to get you started.
Make a dinner reservation… at home
Avoid the crowded restaurants and stay in to cook a romantic meal. Pick up some good wine and plan a menu starring your loved one’s favourite meal. Set the scene by filling a vase with flowers, lighting a candle and using your favourite servingware. For an interactive dessert, you could decorate cupcakes, toast marshmallows or even make chocolates.
Perfect your favourite cocktail
Take note of your partner’s favourite cocktail and recreate it at home. Make sure you’re equipped with ice, fruit and elegant glassware. Need a recipe? We’ve rounded up our eight favourite cocktails and mocktails—including espresso martini and chilli margarita.
Give back
Spread the love this Valentine’s Day and volunteer in your community together. Reach out to a local charity (such as Red Cross, Salvation Army, SPCA or your local City Mission) ask how you can help. Head along to an organised beach clean or create your own—with a post-clean picnic or swim!
Book a romantic staycation
You don’t have to hop on a plane or venture out of town for a romantic getaway. Instead, book a hotel room or boutique Airbnb in your hometown. Treat yourself to room service and watch a movie from the comfort of bed.
Get cultured
For a less-traditional Valentine’s outing, wander your local museum or art gallery together. It’s a unique experience to learn something new and discuss ideas. Alternatively, nab tickets to a theatre performance, comedy show or boutique cinema.
Pack a picnic platter
Woo your lover with a picnic platter piled high with cheese, crackers, dips, fruit, and chocolate. Arrange on a serving board and pair with utensils (such as cheese knives and pickle forks) and linen napkins. Head to a nearby park or beach snuggle up with cosy throws and cushions.
Go on a second first date
Cast your mind back and recall your first date—was it a coffee, a movie or a meal for two? Take a fun walk down memory lane by recreating those first memories. You could even don the same outfit and order the same drink!
