5 ways to: create a bathroom sanctuary

5 ways to: create a bathroom sanctuary

Things were shaken up on Three’s The Block NZ  last week with the return of last season’s winners Amy & Stu, who were enlisted to renovate the family bathroom in Apartment 5.

And it’s a good thing they showed up—the duo was one of the only two teams to complete their bathroom! Sophia & Mikaere also met the challenging deadline with their luxurious grey-hued room.

Take inspo from the two finishing teams with these five ways to create your very own bathroom sanctuary.

1. Add a pop of greenery

You don’t have to embark on a drastic renovation to transform your bathroom into a luxurious spa. Instead, simply add a plant to help create a pleasing, relaxing ambiance. Carefully consider your bathroom’s environment when selecting your perfect plant—the humidity and lighting will impact how well it thrives. If you have minimal lighting, opt for a Boston fern, aloe-vera or a vine-like heartleaf philodendron. Display in a statement planter such as the Harvest Planter used by Sophia & Mikaere on The Block NZ.

2. Embrace plush towels

Towels and bathmats are essential in every bathroom. But, as with picking other home essentials, take the time to select well. Towels should look good, feel good and—most importantly—provide a snug post-shower sanctuary. Selecting towels is an opportunity to add colour, patterns and textures into your bathroom. We love how Amy & Stu added a pop of texture to their bathroom with a white Jacquard Hand Towel.

3. Soak in a hot bath

One of life’s most simple pleasures is soaking in a long, hot bath. Light a scented candle, run a bath and apply a luxurious face mask. On The Block NZ, Sophia & Mikaere paired their bathrooms with L:a Bruket’s organic, natural skincare including the Sea Salt Scrub and detoxifying Clay Mask. Take time out from the hustle and bustle of life and treat yourself to a bath and some well-deserved pampering.

4. Wrap yourself in a robe

Keep the pampering going after your bath by slipping on a luxurious robe. Sophia & Mikaere’s finishing touches included a Beau Men’s Dressing Gown made from natural linen fabric. The robe also comes in women’s sizes and a range of colours. Bundle up in this after a bath and you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to a Balinese spa!

5. Keep things sorted

Bathrooms have a tendency to get cluttered with towels, make-up and skincare products. In order to create a relaxing bathroom sanctuary, you’ll need to create some order. Sophia & Mikaere kept this top of mind when styling their bathroom. They stored towels in a Korbo Classic Basket and placed toothbrushes in an Ora Marble Toothbrush Holder. Compagnie de Provence’s liquid hand soap and hand cream are too beautiful to stash in a cupboard, so they were displayed in the Oku Storage Tray.

We think the two finishing teams did an amazing job with their family bathrooms. We can’t wait to see how the others finish theirs! Find out by tuning into Three’s The Block NZ: Firehouse on Sunday nights at 7pm and Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm.
